On 18 and 19 July, 2022, representatives of environmental organizations, public administrations, researchers and other interested bodies gathered in the Bulgarian city of Burgas, for a conference organised by the Association of Bulgarian Energy Agencies (ABEA) under the title “Energy Transition – Cities and Regions in Action”.
On the first day of the conference, a panel “Sustainable development of regions” focused on utilization of biomass and residues. On this occasion, Georgi Simeonov from REAP presented the BIOCIRCULARCITIES project, highlighting what has been achieved so far, and describing the upcoming steps. He also pointed out that the second Living lab for the pilot region of Pazardzhik would be organised next 30 September 2022. Interested stakeholders are more than welcome to take part in this upcoming event.
A discussion followed on the barriers and potential opportunities for a larger deployment of bio-based residues into the local industry and more precisely, how wood biomass could be valorized and the local economy take advantage of the large quantities of forest wood biomass which remain unutilized.
